Will my dog forget me during board and train?

No!  Dogs have an incredible ability to recognize the people they love through scent and memory. While your dog may briefly process the visual change when they first see you again, their scent recognition happens almost instantly. In reality, most owners are greeted with an extremely enthusiastic reunion 😊

Will my dog listen to me after training?

Accepted Answer

Yes! A key part of our program is transferring the control to you. After your dog completes their board and train, we conduct one-on-one lessons where you will learn exactly how to communicate with your dog and maintain the behaviors they have learned.
While your dog will learn to respond reliably to me during training, the purpose of the program is to ensure they respond just as well to you at home. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to maintain your dog’s excellent behavior long-term!

Do you only train working dogs or working breeds?

No!  While we do train many working breeds such as German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and other high-drive dogs, the majority of our board and train clients are beloved family pets.  We regularly work with small, medium, and large companion dogs whose owners simply want better manners, reliable obedience, and improved behavior at home and in public. Common goals include leash walking, coming when called, calm behavior in the house, and resolving issues like jumping, pulling, barking, or ignoring commands.  Professional training is not just for working dogs. It’s for any owner who wants a well-behaved dog they can enjoy living with and confidently take anywhere.  Our programs are tailored to your dog’s temperament, age, and training goals, whether you have an energetic working breed or a beloved  companion.

Will training change my dog’s personality?

No!  Professional training does not take away your dog’s personality: it enhances it!
Many owners worry that training will make their dog robotic or less expressive. In reality, the opposite is true. When dogs understand clear expectations and boundaries, they become more confident, more relaxed, and more enjoyable to live with. Their natural personality remains the same, but without the behaviors that create frustration or stress.

What happens after the program ends?

Your dog’s training does not end when they go home. Every board and train program includes private lessons with you so you feel confident handling your dog and maintaining their training.  You will also have lifetime support for all behaviors covered in the board and train program, meaning if you ever have additional questions or need guidance in the future, help is always available.

Why does my dog need to stay with a professional trainer?

Training results are largely determined by consistency, timing, and repetition. During a board and train program, your dog receives structured training throughout the day in a controlled environment designed specifically for learning.  This allows us to introduce new skills, reinforce them properly, and gradually proof them around distractions. For many owners with busy schedules, it is difficult to replicate this level of consistency at home (it would take you more than twice as long, even if you had the same amount of time dedicated to daily training)!  By the time your dog returns to you, the foundation has already been built. Your private lessons then focus on teaching you how to maintain and apply those behaviors in your daily life.

For many owners, board and train is the fastest and most effective way to create meaningful change in their dog’s behavior.  Instead of spending months trying to work through challenges alone, your dog receives professional guidance, structure, and daily training designed to produce reliable results. Owners often find that the improvement in their dog’s behavior dramatically improves their day-to-day life, making their dog easier and more enjoyable to live with.

How far in advance should I reserve a board and train program?

Because we only accept a limited number of dogs at a time, most programs are reserved several weeks or months in advance. If you are considering training for your dog, we recommend joining the reservation list early to secure your preferred timeframe.
